Man claimed he was the 'police,' forced his way into woman's hotel room, the real cops say

A woman at a hotel reported a man "banged on the door and identified himself as 'police.'"

Then, “She partially opened the door at which point he forced his way into the room and assaulted her.”

That’s what Connecticut State Police say happened late Friday morning.

They said a caller reported a man, “possibly in possession of a weapon, forced his way into a” room at the Comfort Inn in Griswold.

Troopers found and arrested the suspect, Jonathan Brand, just inside the room.

They also found a woman they described as “visibly distraught,” also in the room.

“She reported Brand is known to her through her employment,” authorities said, not specifying if he’s a coworker, “and was with her and her boyfriend at the hotel.”

Troopers also said housekeepers “never saw a weapon.

“They only thought Brand had one because he claimed to be law enforcement.“No weapons were located at the scene,” though after, “Multiple fraudulent government and press badge IDs were discovered in Brand's wallet.”

Brand, 45, is facing seven criminal charges: home invasion, strangulation, assault, threatening, impersonating a police officer, breach of peace, and forgery.

His bond was set at $500,000.
